RETROSPECTIVE AUDIT: OUTPATIENT HYSTEROSCOPIC PROCEDURES (April 2013 – Feb 2015)-Medison Specialist Women’s Hospital / Fertility Assyst Clinic
The importance of diligent and thorough prior infertility work-up to successful outcome of fertility treatments cannot be overemphasized. As one of the initial steps in infertility work-up, HYSTEROSCOPY is an important procedure to view and treat womb cavity diseases. Such diseases or problems include submucous fibroids, polyps, Asherman’s syndrome, adhesion ridges and septal defects Removing these diseases before IVF treatments can improve pregnancy and on-going pregnancy rates by >50%.
Our fertility units have an effective outpatient diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy/ laparoscopy services that reduces patients’ waiting times to fertility treatment access, provide continuity of service, a one-stop gynaecological / fertility treatment options that maximizes patients’ satisfaction.
In our hospital (from April 2013 to February 2015): A total of 83 women- seen for operative or diagnostic hysteroscopy. Age range 29 to 57 years. Mean age of 40.48 ± 6.21 years. 71% – had operative hysteroscopy; 29% diagnosis only. Those who had balloon catheter or intrauterine device inserted following surgery were followed up before IVF treatments.
